About the Role
The Rob Stewart Sharkwater Foundation is seeking a mission-driven Communications Specialist to help expand our reach, deepen engagement, and drive action for shark and ocean
conservation.
This role is perfect for a creative, organized, and digitally fluent communicator who knows how to turn passion into posts — and followers into advocates.
You’ll work closely with a small, passionate team to plan and deliver compelling content, support key campaigns, grow our digital presence, and help tell the story of Rob Stewart’s enduring legacy.
Key Responsibilities:
Content Strategy & Coordination
- Co-create and manage a content calendar across social, media, newsletters, and fundraising campaigns
- Draft/edit content to support e-marketing, emails, press releases, and other communications
- Provide a monthly summary of completed work and deliverables
- Support brand consistency across all platforms and partner communications
- Help build and maintain an internal asset bank (photos, videos, design files) Social Media Management
- Create and schedule 3+ posts per week across Instagram, Facebook, X/Twitter and LinkedIn
- Monitor and respond to comments/messages; engage with aligned groups and supporters
- Create video clips into engaging short form content using a variety of media
- Track performance and provide monthly analytics; recommend improvements quarterly
Media & PR Support
- Assist with media releases, press kits, and journalist outreach for key campaigns
- Develop and update talking points, FAQs, and key messaging documents
- Maintain and grow our media contact list
Website & Email Coordination
- Update website content (news, events, supporter spotlights, media hits, campaign updates)
- Support email newsletters (graphic setup, copywriting, scheduling, distribution via Mailchimp or equivalent)
- Collaborate with Foundation Manager to align content with fundraising and partnership goals
What You Bring:
- 3+ years of experience managing social media, digital content, or communications for a nonprofit, cause-based campaign, or mission-driven brand
- Excellent writing and digital storytelling skills with an eye for voice, tone, and emotion
- Strong understanding of social strategy, community building, and platform trends
- Proficiency in tools like Canva, Meta Business Suite, Mailchimp, Buffer, Later, or similar
- Experience in video editing and graphic design
- Bonus media relations experience
- Highly organized and self-directed — comfortable managing calendars, deadlines, and creative workflows
- Deep care for ocean life, environmental justice, and the power of storytelling to create change
