  1. I’m so sorry for this loss. Rob was such an inspiration and he truly was able to take the message of the oceans to people who needed to hear and see it. He has left a void indeed. I pray for comfort for the family at this time. Do know that he was loved by the world – including so many of us who never even met him face-to-face.

  2. Rob taught me to campaign for species that are often misunderstood-animals that don’t have many champions because they are feared and regarded as profits. This is especially true of sharks. Rob took to the unfamiliar territory- that of shark protector. Through his work in Sharkwater, he was very instrumental in spreading awareness on the plight of these majestic beings, which are continued to be killed at an alarming rate of over 10,000 per hour.

Rob, I truly feel that sharks lost their number one champion when we lost you. Your legacy will live on, and I promise you that I will help to carry on your mission. I have already signed up to volunteer at Fin Free and will continue to support shark causes. I never got to meet you, but you inspired me in many ways with your amazing work. Will be thinking of you when I go swimming or snorkeling in the ocean. -Grace

  3. I’m deeply saddened to discover Rob Stewart’s death – a genuinely enormous loss to the whole of humanity and, the preservation of the oceans. Rob changed my life forever, when I first saw his film, ‘Sharkwater’ http://www.sharkwater.com/ at a fundraising event on the Gold Coast (QLD) so many years ago……. it was a revelation film, both exposing the criminals making gold from the death of a species; and for the enlightened approach of respecting and even, ‘loving’ sharks. Rob was my hero. My heart goes out to his family at this time. Too soon gone, a truly incredible young man, and brilliant filmmaker. He was one-of-a-kind courageous person who changed the entire world. It is a huge loss, his death. May the footage he filmed for his second film, be revealed to the world again….. RIP dear Rob. You are not forgotten. And may his wife and child be cared for with the greatest of love into their futures. ?????.

  4. As a mother, I know that the world is no longer the same for you now. We all loved Rob and feel great pain. But Rob wants us to continue the fight to protect the sharks. We will do this together with his family, and Rob will give us strength.

    In loving Memory,

  5. I’ve kept Rob’s book “Save the Humans” on my desk while I work everyday for the past year, and have used it as inspiration and strength on days that feel overwhelming. Although I have never met Rob, I’ve considered him my tribe mate on this path in life. A fellow December baby, my same age. A man overcome with his love for the earth. His documentary work was a huge catalyst for me to change direction in my life and follow a calling to help heal our ecosystems. Rob’s work gave me courage, grounding and helped to bring my world into focus. Our world has been forever changed by his dedication and genuine heart for all life in the oceans. Thank you Rob.

  6. I met Rob a few times when I worked for Sea Shepherd Conservation Society and he was instrumental in the founding of Shark Angels with Julie Andersen and my wife Kim McCoy. As a Canadian citizen from a small town on the coast of British Columbia and a marine conservationist, Rob remains very inspiring to me as he does to many around the world. One of my recollections of his impact was when a large company from landlocked Calgary came to Sea Shepherd to offer high value corporate partnership because they were moved to take immediate action after watching Sharkwater. This corporate relationship was instrumental in helping Sea Shepherd to protect threatened sharks and rays. Rob will be a change maker long into the future. Like Steve Jobs, Elon Musk, and Paul Watson, he was able to create a ‘reality distortion field’ to generate the passion and public momentum required to accomplish visionary and insurmountable goals. Through his films and conservation work, Rob was able to stop space and time so that in a given moment one’s only thoughts were about sharks, the ocean, and our beautiful planet. When he released this grip on space and time an innate desire was felt to live up to his example to make change with cascading ripples throughout the world. Today as Rob’s life is celebrated, somewhere in the world someone will be watching Sharkwater or Revolution for the first time and in that moment the cascading ripples of awareness and change that he put in place will hit them and a new activist for sharks, the ocean, and the planet will be born.

  7. Rob inspired me so much and after I saw Revolution and then Sharkwater I wanted to one day meet him because he lit such a big part of my heart up. I send my condolences to his family and friends . I will never forget him and I will keep giving back and helping the environment because of him. He is always going to be with nature in spirit. 8. Ever since I was a child I have loved sharks but when I first watched Sharkwater I was shocked and appalled that anyone could carry out such horrific acts of cruelty on my most beloved animal. I was ignorant to the shark finning industry and Rob opened my eyes to it and changed me from being a passive admirer of sharks lover to a one who will fight for their survival. The world has lost a truly remarkable human being and the loudest, most passionate voice for sharks. But that voice will not cease to speak out. We will carry on your mission to save sharks, Rob because you’ve shown us that we can change the world and that we must. Rest Peacefully Rob knowing that we will not.
