  1. Rest in Peace Rob. Your movie completely changed my life. You shattered my irrational fear of sharks and made me think about the environment in a completely different way. Now I’m the person sharing facts and making sure everyone I know has watched your movies. Your passion, drive and love of our planet is unmatched. I was fortunate to meet you in Toronto and you had a way of drawing people in truly listening and caring about what they said. You accomplished so much in your 37 years, but I know you had so much more to do. We will continue to carry the torch for you Rob, know that your work lives on through all of us. As absolutely devastating as this tragedy is, I found a little peace knowing you were doing what you loved. I send my deepest condolences to your family and your friends, you have touched so many.

  2. Lost for words to describe the pain of losing Rob. He is the kind of enlightened person capable of reaching the whole world without having met most people (me included). He is with the force now and hope his work and legacy make a difference to our attitude towards the oceans and against shark extinction. We need many more Robs to put a stop to the cruelty imposed to the most beautiful creatures in this planet. Please send us strength Rob, we need it more than ever now.

  6. My family and I met Rob last year briefly… after we rented his beautiful home for a holiday while he was out shooting.
My husband and I were so touched by the energy in his home and the beautiful energy we felt when we met him. He definitely had a unique magnetic charm and clearly it was felt by all.
After meeting Rob we followed his journey online and donated to the new doc. He touched both my husband in a way neither of us can explain. Since we discovered the news of him missing were wishing/ praying for his safe return.
We have been heart broken with the news of his passing.
We both pass on our deepest condolences to his family, friends and work colleagues.
Clearly he has touched many far and wide, as often the good ones do. I hope you eventually find peace in his memory and carrying his dream forward.
Wishing you so much love and healing. xxxx

  8. I am so deeply saddened & heart broken about this. I attended a Green Film Fest where I saw Sharkwater, bought the dvd, & shared with my junior students. I was so impressed and grateful for the kind, generous and incredible work that Rob did. I prayed everyday, waking in the middle of the night to send out a prayer for his speedy recovery. I can’t believe this happened. I am so sorry for our loss, for the world, for the sharks, but especially for the family that knew & loved this amazing, inspirational, wonderful person.

  9. To the bloke that had a huge impact on my career path years ago, Rob Stewart, you will be sorely missed by this planet. His documentary http://www.sharkwater.com inspired me greatly. I was lucky enough to have met you in LA Rob and to be able to thank you in person. Rest in Peace mate

  10. The world lost an inspiring conservationist in Rob — someone who believed in something bigger than himself and did everything he could everyday to save the ocean. His passion for conservation (and life) was contagious. My whole outlook on sharks (and the ocean) changed because of him. I never met him before but I could feel his positive spirit through his work. May the sea set you free. ••• “You’re told your whole life since you were a kid, sharks are dangerous. You’re warned not to go adventuring too far out into the ocean, but then finally… you see the thing that you were taught your whole life to fear, and it’s perfect, and it doesn’t want to hurt you, and it’s the most beautiful thing you’ve ever seen. And your whole world changes.”

  11. “Only the good die young.” Such a sad loss to those who loved him, his work and the world of ocean conservancy. We have to continue his messages… his passion.

  12. Accident or MURDER premeditated and BETRAYAL?
I heard Rob’s silent cry asking for help EVEN UP TO HERE before he die, and I am in Guatemala, Central America.
What worries me a lot is the investigation of the cause of death and the indifference, negligence, irresponsibility and abandonment on the part of the Diving Team that was with Rob Stewart.
Was it an accident, or a premeditated, planned and paid murder?
Dive buddies were supposed to be professionals, were not 1 or 2 but 5 and the person in charge of the boat, and it is obvious that with new re-inhalation or re-breathing equipment and after have submerged 1 or 2 times over 200 feet, the body is already exhausted, there are dizziness, lack of lucidity, narcosis by nitrogen, fainting, and as professionals as RULE you never leave a partner for 1 second, NEVER, it is the most basic and OBVIOUS and even if the diver gives the “OK” with the hand is OBVIOUS that IS NOT. And they still let him sink alone? This misterous death seems more like a conspiracy and betrayal than an accident.
The world, the universe, has lost a great person, someone who can not be replaced and few people have the qualities and will that Rob Stewart had, he was a light full of inconditional love for life. My heartfelt condolences, from Guatemala.
