  2. Such a tragic loss. But it is remarkable to see the amount of good one person can accomplish, even if in significantly less time than we had all hoped. I hope this generation and the future can carry his memory on by being/becoming environmental warriors.

  4. Dear Stewart Family,

I want you all to know what a huge impact Rob’s movie had on my classroom. Every year after the movie first became available I showed it to my students. The really cool part was that Rob made materials available for teachers, and along with materials from the Monterey Bay Aquarium, I was able to build an entire unit on shark biology and conservation. There are literally hundreds of students who are now adults that have a completely different view of sharks, the ocean, and their conservation responsibility because of Rob’s efforts and commitment.

One kind of sweet part of the story with my students is that my last job was at an all girls school. Let me tell you there was not one girl asleep during Rob’s movie! They all thought he was SO CUTE AND SO BRAVE!! At the beginning of the shark unit the new class would always ask “do we get to see the movie with the cute shark diver?”

On a very serious note, I know that life’s cruelest moment is the loss of a child. You his parents are experiencing a loss that none of the rest of us are. I sincerely hope that you knowing what a tremendous asset his work was to me and my students will help you on your most difficult days.

One of my favorite poems is “The Dash” At the end of the poem the question is asked “So, when your eulogy is being read, with your life’s actions to rehash…
would you be proud of the things they say
about how you spent YOUR dash?”
What Rob achieved in his too short life is remarkable. To touch the lives of so many that he did not even know, and to have a lasting impact on how so many see the ocean, sharks, and conservation is inspiring.

I am so sorry for your loss, and for our loss of such a wonderful ocean advocate. Please know that your son’s vision lives on in myself and so many of my students.

    Kindly,
    Kayleen Lewis

  8. My heart is broken. You have been an inspiration to millions of us around the world. You made me a proud Torontonian. Why do the best have to leave us so early? :((( Even though your life was cut dramatically short, you have made huge positive impact on this planet. Thank you so much for your priceless work. We’re going to continue where you left off and continue the important work for our planet and on your behalf. My deepest deepest condolences to all your loved ones. Thank you for changing the world for the better. You are one of my heroes. We lost such an important voice but you’re always going to shine through future work people will carry on because of you. For a green and peaceful planet, XOXO

Don’t forget Rob’s work, continue it and keep this man in your mind and in your heart.

  10. I wrote a little piece in honor to Rob and his family

Today the sea is calm, waves are not playing with the wind.
Today no birds are singing love songs, silence is crawling in.
The stars are hiding and will not dance in the dark blue night.
A lonely soul in the deep ocean is glowing the brightest light.
A Soul there ones was a boy that walked Mother Earth as a spirit of a child
A Soul there grew in to a passionated mann, left his footprint in the world, in our minds and in the natures beautiful wild.
He loved the earths greatest beast and smallest wonders.
He went to war and fought battles against pollution and shark hunters.
His legacy will be carried with honer in our heart and mind
The ocean warrior there inspired all Mankind

In loving memory of Rob Stewart.
