  7. I am still in disbelief that this tragedy occurred. Rob’s work has been a huge source of inspiration for me personally. I just hope that we can live up to the standards that he set and carry on his legacy. He will be deeply missed.

“He wanted to show that the shark was a beautiful creature, essential to our ecosystem and not to be feared. He presented sharks in a new light and changed the perspective of millions of people.”

  8. I was in shock when the body of Rob was found. I could not believe it. The work that he has done, and with waking up the world around sharks has been incredible. Back in high school, my junior year, I showed the film Sharkwater and everyone who came to see it were in amazement that sharks were being killed for their fins.
During the Kickstarter campaign, I got to meet Rob through Youtube Livestream, where he answered my questions and comments. It felt as though he was talking to me (besides the other people in the chat room too). I have become so inspired by Rob Stewart, that I too will one day make a film about a species of animal, or work with an organization to save species. To see someone film a specie that could tear up is risking, but those are chances one has to take to counter the myths.
I was lucky enough to be around friends when I heard the news, and lucky enough to have a community that was willing to watch Sharkwater with me. But with pain comes the strength to continue fighting for sharks and for all species.

  9. My heart goes out for a truly remarkable man. As a truly avid sharkdiver, I can say our shark community has taken a large loss. I am so saddened. Please, do what you can to help. What we really need are more people to do more videos to get the word out, or other ways. Donate anything you can. Please help our sharks. That is all Rob wanted, that is the least we can do in his memory.

  11. Dear Stewart family,

I had the honour to meet and work with Rob on my theatrical documentary film PASSION FOR PLANET, in which Rob is one of the main protagonists. In our film, we show the paths a some of the world’s best wildlife filmmakers as they do their share in working on preserving our planet. Rob and I met several times between 2008 and 2015 for filming purposes.

I must say from the very first meeting I was totally intrigued by Rob’s vision and determination. In Rob’s short life as an activist he already achieved so much in a relatively short time span. With his bright spirit he ignited so many people’s lives, as I can witness even now with the comments people are leaving at our facebook site (Fb/passionforplanetfilm) after we shared the news about Rob’s incident.

Thank you for the gift of Rob’s presence on Mother Earth!

My thoughts are with you in these days.
